Journey to Entrepreneurship

Shannon's entrepreneurial journey began during her university days when she was on a quest to find affordable and effective ways to treat her relaxed hair. Inspired by the natural hair community on YouTube, Shannon noticed a glaring gap in the UK market for natural hair products. This realization sparked her passion to share her own hair journey and ultimately, to create products that catered to the curly hair community.

Navigating through a lot of trial and error, Shannon experimented with various fabrics for pillowcases that would double as bonnets, researched tirelessly, and networked extensively. Her dedication paid off as she focused on products that met the needs of her target audience. With a clear vision and relentless determination, Shannon laid the foundation for O So Curly, a brand that would soon become synonymous with quality and innovation in the natural hair care industry.

The brand has steadily grown, driven by Shannon's commitment to quality and her deep understanding of her customers' needs. O So Curly's product range has expanded over the years, and the brand has gained a loyal customer base. Shannon's innovative approach and her ability to connect with her audience have been pivotal in the brand's success.

Shannon’s Business Launchpad (BLP) Experience

A significant turning point in Shannon's entrepreneurial journey was her involvement with the Business Launchpad (BLP) Pitch Forward programme. With the guidance and mentorship provided by BLP, Shannon was able to refine her business strategy and gain valuable insights. Winning the pitch competition was a monumental achievement that boosted her confidence and provided her with the knowledge to propel O So Curly forward.

The mentorship Shannon received through BLP was instrumental in her success. Her mentors not only provided strategic advice but also encouraged her to participate in key events like the Curly Hair convention, 'Curly Treats', where she showcased and sold her products. The connections made during these events have been invaluable, opening doors to new opportunities and collaborations.

Since joining BLP, Shannon has continued to grow O So Curly, expanding her product range and enhancing brand awareness. Inspired by other women of colour (WOC) in the hair care industry, Shannon is determined to take her brand to new heights. Her ultimate dream is to see O So Curly products available on high streets and to become a household name for curly girls worldwide.

In 2023, O So Curly was recognized as one of OK Magazine’s Best British Brands for Black Haircare, a testament to Shannon's hard work and the support she received from BLP. Shannon's story is a powerful example of how passion, perseverance, and the right guidance can transform a dream into reality.
